The California Voices After School program, an initiative of the Center for Multicultural Cooperation (CMC), starts it's second year in 18 middle and high schools in the Sacramento area working with the Elk Grove Unified School District, Galt Joint Union High School District, Sacramento City Unified School District and Woodland Joint Unified School Districts. Over 400 students will have the opportunity to interview generational leaders who have had a significant impact to our country, culture or community. Students are also able to create participatory media on issue that personally effect them. With an updated curriculum for the 2009 - 2010 school year, the California Voices After School program teaches 21st Century media technology skills though youth leadership and service learning. Students will tell youth issue videos and digital stories of community leaders as well as having a chance to participate in at least one video competition in the upcoming school year. We are proud to announce new staff: Rodolfo Vazquez, Program Coordinator for Latino Voices and Coordinator for the Sacramento Youth Empowerment Studio (SacYES), CMC's youth run social entrepreneurship business. David Gaines is the Program Coordinator for Native Voices. Stephanie Xiong works as the Office Manager and Coordinator for Hmong Voices. Jeanine Gaines returns as the California Voices Program Manager. |
