California Voices is an after-school digital storytelling program
designed to guide students to have a greater commitment to academic
achievement, career goals and civic engagement, while preserving the
legacy of elders who have made significant contributions to culture,
community, and country.
This school year, educators from middle and high schools in Fresno, Kings, Madera and Mariposa Counties will gather at the Fresno Youth Empowerment Studio (FresYES!) to receive training on how to implement digital storytelling in their after-school programs. The California Voices curriculum teaches facilitators how to guide a group of 15-20 students, five hours per week in the art of finding compelling storytellers, conducting interviews, preparing research, scriptwriting, storyboarding, producing and editing video and music. At the conclusion of the school year, student teams have several well-crafted videos to present to their school and community in addition to being included in the California Voices archive located at CaliforniaVoices.org. With an exciting new program in the Sacramento region, California Voices is expanding innovative after-school programs statewide. Are you interested in developing a youth leadership network based on art, media, and history? If so, join our team...CMC is motivated to keep the movement going! Be sure to check out videos from the First Annual Central Valley Premiere.
